Getting Bigger....

The pups are getting so big! Helen is going to load them all up and do a 3 1/2 hour trek each way to our place so I can see them again before they go to their new  homes.

The red pup is "Secret" and I'll be co-owning her with Helen.  I adore her already and Helen is completely in love with her.

This is a breeding that we would love to repeat.  The pups are sound and even temperament.  I'm very excited to be part of this. Thank you Helen Johnstone Black 'N Blue Aussies . I keep teasing her that now she has a red pup, she will have to change her registered name to Black 'N Blue 'N Red Aussies... quite the mouthful :)

The pups were all spoken for with in a few days of birth.  Once you see the photos, you'll know why.  Awesome pedigrees behind both parents.

We can hardly wait for Helen to get here with them.  New photos soon, I hope. Check back again and please feel free to comment.

Cheers,
Tess

Because We Do Things Naturally At Kokopelli

Out of a household that includes 7 dogs, I have only one that has an ongoing fear of thunder. We have worked on it for the past several years and her symptoms lessen each year. At the beginning of each spring, when the thunderstorms begin, ...we have re-enforce the lessons learned in prior years .

Today we had the first thunderstorm of the season and when Lindsay, the one with the fear, started to pace, pant and become agitated, she stirred up the other dogs to the point that another dog, Reagan, was trying to jump up into my lap.

It was obvious I need to get everyone calmed down, which at this point seemed as though it would be next to impossible, with 4 dogs in constant motion and emitting vocalizations of anxiety.

In my mind, the need to alleviate the the tension and fear these dog were going through, was paramount. Immediately, I grounded myself, called up my Reiki guides and sent out Reiki for all the dogs in the room.

Within a minute or less, all 4 dogs calmed down, their breathing returned to normal and in less than 2 minutes, all of them were laying down and nodding off to sleep. This while still in the midst of a thunderstorm that was rocking the house.

Each time I use Reiki with my animals, I feel blessed to be attuned and capable of lessoning their anxiety.

Karen Krueger has written an excellent article on Reiki for dogs, including dogs with thunder fear. Reiki for dogs
Enjoy these lovey spring days, including thunderstorms!
p.s. For those who have asked, I will post new puppy photos as soon as they arrive.

Another Gorgeous October Day

In between cleaning the house to prepare for Thanksgiving dinner with my son's and their lovely ladies, I'm trying to do some training with the puppies. Last evening, believe it or not, I had all four obedient little cuties lying down on a mate and they did a down/stay for 3 minutes. Unfortunately it is very difficult to keep tossing treats as rewards for the requested behaviour and fetch camera at the same time. This evening I'll try to come to the training prepared with both loaded goody bag of treats and digital camera.

In the meantime if you're aching for some puppy breath, you can see updated photos at Robin Australian Shepherds on the Kokopelli page at this link (just copy and past or go to my list of favourite links) http://users.csolve.net/~robin/Kokopelli2008.htm Robin will continue to update that page for as long as these puppies are still available :D She owns the sire "Rider" and the pedigree is available there too. Once you're there, take a good look around. Robin has been breeding, showing and studying our beloved breed for many years and has been in the dog world for even longer having had Akitas before Aussies. If there is ever anything I don't know or can't answer when asked, I go to Robin first then to her sister Renee if it is behavioral in nature. I have been training my dogs with Renee in Toronto for the past couple of years and would not dream of socializing a puppy anywhere else. Her website too in in the list of favorites:)

Back to cleaning house!!
