Another Gorgeous October Day

In between cleaning the house to prepare for Thanksgiving dinner with my son's and their lovely ladies, I'm trying to do some training with the puppies. Last evening, believe it or not, I had all four obedient little cuties lying down on a mate and they did a down/stay for 3 minutes. Unfortunately it is very difficult to keep tossing treats as rewards for the requested behaviour and fetch camera at the same time. This evening I'll try to come to the training prepared with both loaded goody bag of treats and digital camera.

In the meantime if you're aching for some puppy breath, you can see updated photos at Robin Australian Shepherds on the Kokopelli page at this link (just copy and past or go to my list of favourite links) http://users.csolve.net/~robin/Kokopelli2008.htm Robin will continue to update that page for as long as these puppies are still available :D She owns the sire "Rider" and the pedigree is available there too. Once you're there, take a good look around. Robin has been breeding, showing and studying our beloved breed for many years and has been in the dog world for even longer having had Akitas before Aussies. If there is ever anything I don't know or can't answer when asked, I go to Robin first then to her sister Renee if it is behavioral in nature. I have been training my dogs with Renee in Toronto for the past couple of years and would not dream of socializing a puppy anywhere else. Her website too in in the list of favorites:)

Back to cleaning house!!

Where Did The Summer Go??

Well here it is October 10th and it's Thanksgiving weekend. The puppies are now 12 weeks old, oh my :D My son, Jay, married his lovely bride Miranda in September, so that made three weddings this summer on top of 5 puppies running around here so maybe I'll be forgiven for not being able to keep up with this blog. I at least kept up with photos for Robin's website http://users.csolve.net/~robin/Kokopelli2008.htm even though my computer was not working too well. I will try to upload a few here.

The wee blue girl I've decided to keep, her name is Keeper of course. Her eyes are the colour of the sky and wherever she goes, people are drawn to her. It's my hope to show Keeper in conformation, get her started in freestyle (handler/dog dancing to music!!) but most important to me is that she gives to others by being a great therapy dog and if her sweet nature is any indication of her career in that field, then she is going to be brilliant in that area or any venue we dare to venture.

Ketch the male that is still here is an amazing boy. I wish I could keep him. He loves to go for walks and stays quite close, not wanting to wander off on his own too far, always coming back to let me know he's being a good boy then going to play for another few minutes. He's a calm, thoughtful Aussie and learns new lessons easily and retains the information he has learned.

Whisper is the smaller of the two black tri girls and she is the one with the full white trim. She is so sweet and incredibly intelligent. Whisp picks up whatever I teach her the first time and does whatever I ask of her willingly and with much pleasure. She is one of those puppies that just wants to please and is such a little love sponge but not too soft of a temperament, just right. She will stand up for herself when need be.

Bond is the black tri who's blaze has all but disappeared leaving her with an almost totally black face other than the tan pumpkin seeds (eye brows) and and tan in her cheeks and the white that peeks up from under her chin from her chest. She has pretty white feet with tan on her legs. Bond has these big brown eyes that look so sad sometimes but she is a very happy puppy and often smiles at you too. She is a quiet puppy that likes to play with the others but then will sometimes go and lay down by herself and she really loves to come and lay down on my lap and just snuggle. She's what I call a snuggle bunny and would do best in a home where she is the only dog or at least for now.

Well I'm off to bed, these puppies have me up at the crack of dawn and I'm exhausted from looking after them all day. I'll try to keep you posted better from now on.

One Week Old

Reagan blessed us here at Kokopelli with 2 Gorgeous Black Girls, 2 Handsome Black Boys and 1 Very Pretty Blue Girl one week ago. They were born in thew wee hours of July 16 th and are very healthy and strong. Reagan being her usual sociable self, brings a puppy out of the 'nest' in her mouth at least once a day while I am in the kitchen or living room, looking up at me as if to say, "Hey Ma, have you noticed what I made? You haven't been to see me in the last 5 minutes so I thought I'd remind you how cute my new kids are!!" The when I say, what are you doing with that baby out here? She promptly drops him/her on the floor and looks at me to pick him/her up and follow her back to the nest. I of course gently pick said puppy up and pitter pat down the hall behind the little mother and place her gingerly down with her siblings to settle in to the black and blue knot they've woven to keep warm. Standing back I take a mental picture thinking how short this time will be and grateful that Reagan has alerted me to this fact. Not that I don't come see them dozens of times a day but you can never get enough puppy breath. Speaking of which, it's been about 5 minutes so... I'll catch you later :)
